My name is Zou Guangrong, and I work as Senior Scientist and Senior Project Manager on maritime digitalization, decarbonization and automation at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. As a highly motivated enthusiast for holistic research and research management, I have been vigorously pushing back the research-and-innovation frontier of holistic design and operation optimization of maritime energy systems during my over 16 years of research career at VTT. Being a highly experienced project management professional, I have been actively building, coordinating and managing the corresponding research and commercial project portfolio, especially through large national and international research programmes co-funded by Business Finland and the European Commission, such as the Arctic Seas, Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe programmes.
From my point of view, the IPMA Level B certification provided me a great opportunity not only to thoroughly self-evaluate my core competences in managing and coordinating large and complex cross-organization projects from the perspectives of personal and interpersonal, technical and contextual competences but also to systematically identify my weak points and potential competence areas for further development. More importantly, the valuable opinions, feedback and suggestions on my competences and skills which the assessors gave during the certification process will help me to utilize and develop professional and innovative methods and strategies for better managing complex research and innovation projects and thus to better address the technical and business challenges faced by the partners, customers, industries and the society.
